quicKutter - Rope and Line Cutter

Quickwater Marine is an Australian company designing and manufacturing unique products to prevent bearing failure and premature wear problems in the professional and recreational marine industry.

Products

quicKutter

The quickKutter eliminates rope and line problems consequently reducing the risk of propulsion failure that results in unscheduled downtime and expense.

sandStopper

The sandStopper prevents sand from entering the bearing consequently reducing the risk of premature bearing and shaft wear that results in unscheduled maintenance and expense.

 Integrated System

The sandStopper and quicKutter can be combined and used on the same shaft creating a synergistic effect that enhances the benefits of the two products as they provide mutual protection.

quicKutter

The revolutionary quicKutter rope cutter system eliminates rope and line problems. The system has no moving parts to wear out and is easy to install.

  • quicKutter cuts rope, line and twisted steel line
  • Competitively priced
  • International patent applied for
  • Available in 3 sizes, Series 16 for shaft sizes 1-2", Series 25 for shaft sizes 2-4" and Series 30 for shaft sizes of 4-6"

Bearing failure due to rope and line entaglement

Cause

  • Vessels operate in waterways where there is an increasing presence of rope and line
  • Rope or line is entangled with the propellor and wraps around the shaft between the propellor and the bearing carrier
  • The tight coils of rope or line restrict the flow of fresh lubricating water to the lubrication zone between the bearing and the shaft
  • The tight coils of rope or line may melt due to friction and enter the bearing, sealing off the flow of fresh lubricating water

Problem

  • Rapid failure of the bearing due to overheating
  • Premature wear of the bearing due to overheating
  • Risk of severe damage to the propulsion system due to associated stress
  • Other types of cutters only provide partial protection against rope and very limited protection against line
  • Other types of cutters may reduce boat speed

Consequences

  • Bearing burnout and propulsion system damage
  • Unscheduled downtime = less operating time = less income
  • Increased frequency of repairs = increased operating costs = decreased profits
  • Threat to the safety of the crew

Solution

  • Stop the rope or line from wrapping around the shaft between the propellor and the bearing carrier
  • Ensure the rope or line is continually cut away to allow a continuous flow of lubricating water through the bearing
  • Install the Quickwater quicKutter System (Patent Pending)

Benefits

  • Reduces the risk of propulsion failure
  • Cost effective - low capital cost for high savings
  • Increased bearing and shaft life = reduced maintenance cost
  • Reduced downtime = increased income
  • Easily installed and fits all shaft sizes (can be fitted to vessels with full keels)
  • Simple, robust and effective
  • Provides effective protection against rope and line
  • Blades can be easily replaced if required
  • Easily integrated with the Quickwater Sandstopper

How Does the quicKutter System Work?

The Quickwater spool material is fixed to the propellor between the propellor and bearing carrier to prevent the rope or line from wrapping around the shaft. It provides a surface for the rope or line to wrap around to enable the quicKutter blades to continually cut the coils of rope or line as they form and are pressed against the quicKutter blades.

The quicKutter is fixed to the bearing carrier and protrudes out over the Quickwater spool surface ensuring that the clearance does not allow rope or line to pass under the blade and that rope or line is continually cut away to allow a continuous flow of water to exit from the bearing.
